In these days of impersonal E- Commerce, catalogues & discount chain store shopping, it is a welcomed breath of fresh air to come across a family run business committed to customer satisfaction. Such has been my experience with Kaoud Rugs of Wilton and New Canaan. Fred Kaoud has gone the extra mile to ensure that our family was pleased with our selection of a Persian rug. To better guide us in our choices, Fred came out to house to familiarize himself with the room where the carpet would lay as well as our decorating tastes. He patiently waited week after week, month after month as we "tried out" several carpets searching for the perfect one. Fred even went as far as to order a carpet from overseas to be brought over for our consideration. While this particular carpet was in transit, Fred called us to update us on its status: in customs, in our warehouse, etc. Unsolicited communication? How often have we all prepaid for something to have the store put you on hold as they try to locate your information-only to tell you "it's still not in yet." Each time I entered his store I was greeted by name and with a genuine "hello" as he and his staff were happy to accommodate me by flipping through endless stacks of rugs. One may assume that an owner would provide such services to a decorator in hopes of repeat purchases and referrals, but we are just one family buying only one rug, while sticking to a budget. In the end, we decided to stay with our original carpet, but not for lack of selection, service or commitment to making the customer feel valued and appreciated. We wanted to remind the local community that family business is what makes commerce interesting, unique and special. If you like the feeling of our towns, then we should all make attempts to shop and hire the services local businesses whenever possible. We just wanted to share a simple story that highlights Kaoud Rugs. We have had 22 years of great success with every local company we do business with: from oil delivery to garden nurseries to grocery shopping and we welcome their diversity and commitment to our communities.
